ExpensesNote — Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
Effective date: May 12, 2026
Thank you for using ExpensesNote ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information ExpensesNote collects, how it is used, and how we protect it.
By downloading and using ExpensesNote, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
ExpensesNote is a personal finance tracking application. All financial data you enter into the app is stored locally on your device only. This may include:
- Transaction records: Income and expense amounts, categories, descriptions, and dates
- Budget information: Monthly budget amounts and associated categories
- Loan records: Loan amounts, person names associated with loans, payment status, and due dates
- Category names: Custom categories you create for organizing transactions
- Person names: Names of individuals associated with loan records
1.2 Information We Do NOT Collect
ExpensesNote does not collect, store, or transmit the following:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Geolocation data
- Contacts or address book information
- Camera or photo gallery access
- Microphone or audio data
- Biometric data (fingerprints, face recognition)
- Browsing history or app usage analytics
- Crash reports or performance data
2. How Your Information Is Stored
2.1 Local Storage
All your financial data is stored exclusively in a local SQLite database on your device. We do not have access to, nor do we maintain, any central server or cloud database containing your information.
App preferences (such as your selected currency and settings) are stored locally using your device's secure storage.
2.2 No Remote Servers
ExpensesNote operates entirely offline. Your data remains on your device at all times unless you explicitly choose to use the backup feature described below.
3. Google Drive Backup Feature
ExpensesNote offers an optional backup and restore feature that allows you to save your database to Google Drive.
3.1 How It Works
- Google Sign-In is used only when you choose to back up your data to Google Drive
- Signing in with Google is entirely optional — the app works fully without it
- When you use this feature, your encrypted database file is uploaded to your own Google Drive account
- The app uses the
drive.filescope, which means it can only access files it creates — it cannot read or modify any of your other Google Drive files
3.2 What Data Is Backed Up
If you choose to use Google Drive backup, the following is uploaded to your Google Drive:
- Your complete ExpensesNote SQLite database file, containing all transactions, budgets, loans, categories, and person names
3.3 Google's Privacy Policy
When you sign in with Google, Google's own Privacy Policy applies to the authentication process. You can review Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
3.4 Local Backup
You can also choose to back up your data to your device's local storage (Downloads folder) without using Google Sign-In. In this case, no data leaves your device.
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
4.1 We Do Not Sell or Share Your Data
ExpensesNote does not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal or financial data with any third parties for any purpose.
4.2 Third-Party Services
The only third-party service that ExpensesNote interacts with is:
| Service | Purpose | Data Accessed |
|---|---|---|
| Google Sign-In | User authentication for Google Drive backup | Email address (for sign-in only), Google Drive file access (app-created files only) |
We do not use any analytics services, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, or other third-party data collection services.
4.3 Third-Party Libraries
ExpensesNote uses the following open-source libraries that operate entirely within the app and do not transmit your data externally:
- GetX — State management and navigation
- sqflite — Local SQLite database
- Syncfusion Charts & FL Chart — Data visualization
- PDF — PDF report generation
- share_plus — System share functionality (shares files only when you choose to share)
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- All financial data is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security features (screen lock, encryption, etc.)
- Google Drive backups are transmitted over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)
- The app does not transmit any data over unencrypted connections
- No data is stored on any external servers maintained by us
However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use your device's built-in security features, such as screen locks and device encryption, to protect your data.
6. Children's Privacy
ExpensesNote is a general-purpose finance tracking tool and is not specifically directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us so we can address the situation.
7. Your Rights and Control
You have full control over your data:
- View: All your data is accessible within the app at any time
- Delete: You can delete individual transactions, budgets, loans, or all data by clearing the app's data from your device settings
- Export: You can export your data as PDF reports or back up the complete database
- Revoke Google Access: You can revoke ExpensesNote's access to your Google account at any time by visiting https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
8. Permissions Requested by the App
ExpensesNote requests the following permissions:
| Permission | Purpose | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Internet access | Google Sign-In and Google Drive backup/restore | Only if you use Google Drive backup |
| Storage access | Saving backup files and PDF reports to your device; restoring from local backup | Only when you use backup/export features |
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, phone, SMS, or any other sensitive device features.
9. International Users
ExpensesNote is available worldwide. Your data is stored on your device and, if you use Google Drive backup, in your Google Drive account, which is subject to Google's data handling practices and your regional data protection laws.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
11. Data Retention
- Local data: Your financial data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app
- Google Drive backups: Backup files remain in your Google Drive until you manually delete them
- No server-side retention: We do not retain any of your data on our servers because we do not operate any servers
